- makes 14 biscuits
- Cook
- 475°F, 12 min
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp shortening (3-4 Tbsp if a shorter biscuit is desired)
- About 3/4 cup milk, or a mixture of half water and half milk
Steps
- Measure the sifted flour, baking powder, and salt into a sifter. Sift into a bowl.
- Using a steel fork, mix the shortening lightly and thoroughly with the sifted dry ingredients. Add the milk slowly, mixing just enough to make a soft dough. Mix lightly with the fork. Toss the dough onto a lightly floured board.
- Pat the dough out lightly with your hands to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out with a biscuit cutter dipped in flour. Place on a greased pan — far apart for a crusty biscuit, close together for a thicker, softer biscuit.
- Bake at 475°F about 12 min. Makes 14 biscuits.
