Ingredients

  • 1 gallon canned pears
  • 3 1/2 cups sugar

Steps

  1. Add sugar to the pears; let stand to dissolve.
  2. Put on a slow burner so it barely boils. You can turn it off any time and resume later. Keeping the burner low means it’s not likely to burn and won’t break up the pears much. May take most of the day. The juice will get thick and amber.
  3. You can add lemon slices and a bit of cinnamon bark if you like.
