Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce
- 1 can tomatoes, cut up
- 1 can whole kernel corn
- 1/2 c. sliced pitted black olives
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. chili powder
- black pepper
- 1 c. grated cheese
- 1 green pepper [diced/chopped]
Crust:
- 3/4 c. yellow cornmeal
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. cold water
- 1 Tbsp. butter
Steps
- Brown beef, onion and green pepper; drain.
- Add remaining ingredients except cheese. Bring to boil; simmer uncovered 20 min. or until thickened. Add cheese; stir until melted. Set aside.
- Combine cornmeal, salt, water and chili powder [as noted]. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until thick. Add butter.
- Spread half of crust mixture in baking dish 12x8x2. Add filling; spoon on remaining crust.
- Bake 375° - 45 min.
Notes
The instructions mention adding chili powder to the crust mixture, though chili powder is not separately listed among the crust ingredients — likely a small additional amount from the filling seasonings, per the original card’s shorthand notation. Recipe title “From: Dorothy Daffron.”
