- Grandma's Notepad (handwritten, p. 9)
- Serves
- about 9 biscuits
- Cook
- 425°F, 10-13 min
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
Steps
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Sift together flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl.
- Make a well in the flour and add the milk. Add the shortening and begin kneading (cutting in with your hands) the shortening and flour into the milk until mixed.
- Turn onto a floured board and knead 6-8 times. Pat the dough to a 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into biscuits.
- Place on a baking sheet and brown 10-13 min. Makes about 9 biscuits.
Notes
- The title abbreviation “Y.F. Biscuits” is unclear (initials for a person or place?) — worth confirming the intended name.
- Steps repeat “add milk” in a slightly confusing way, possibly reflecting a self-correction in the original; transcribed as literally written.
